When we first came across Gibson Bull we were surprised how he could have so few plays. It might have something to do with the low key release of his eponymous debut album over a year ago, but since then he’s kept his head down and written a good batch of songs to record a follow-up EP.
Some of you might remember the brilliant track-cycling, London Hip-hop group 2morrow’s Victory that we brought you a couple of weeks ago. Well their own record label unveiled two new signings at Gilles Peterson’s Worldwide Awards last week that we thought worth telling you about.
A few months back, we introduced you to @Peace who made one of our favourite Hip-hop albums of 2011. It turns out some of them have their fingers dipped other pies, giving us more to wrap our ears around.
With the recent release of Jacques Greene’s new track with Koreless, we thought we’d bring you a new producer who likes to dabble in RnB samples. Despite still being a Music Tech student at Birmingham City, Guy Furious has already achieved a fair bit. It’s his exploration into Future-Garage on EP Pillow Talk that caught our attention the most.
Released on January 1st 2012, Patrick Loggins a.k.a. Time Wharp has wasted no time in unleashing pure unadulterated sonic joy to the world in the form of track yrLyf.
The xx need no introduction really and it’s just as well as we should be on a break at Christmas. So here’s the first material since their Mercury Award winning self-titled album of 2009, leaked yesterday on their blog.
It’s safe to say that Aphex Twin, known as the most inventive and influential figure in contemporary electronic music today, has had a pretty interesting 2011. Kanye West sampled the track Avril 14th off the 2001 drukQs album to make a melancholic love joint with John Legend called Blame Game. Now, Dutch-born RnB/Neo-Soul singer Mar (of Full Crate & Mar) and North London counterpart Szjerdene have collaborated to showcase their version of the famous piano track. It is in keeping with Mar’s Variation project, which has him reinterpreting old songs in his own style, accompanied by some very cinematic videos. The video for Avril 14th is a bit heavy, (it might even be a homage to Aphex Twin’s notoriously messed up music videos) but we love the new interpretation – AAAAND it’s a free download which you can get here.
Essex’s Stuart Howard a.k.a. Lapalux is Brainfeeder’s most recent signing – coming to the forefront with influences from his UK counterpart James Blake, and weaving it together with the more crunchy synth lines that…
After weeks of gossiping and sneak previews, the first EP from Nicolas Jaar’s new sideproject Darkside was unveiled yesterday and it’s a little bit special…
We posted on Jack’s solo project back in May this year – introducing the world to the Future-Garage vibes of I Will Change You. Since then, he’s been busy touring the world with his band Bombay Bicycle Club, promoting their third album A Different Kind of Fix (which is really good by the way, go cop that). So it’s nice to know he’s got enough musical juices left in him after all that to then sit down and create songs like Mahalia…
