Sankofa Season is the much-awaited collaborative EP from acclaimed vocalist, Andrew Ashong and sovereign broken beat master, Kaidi Tatham. The roots of which, were formed at a chance meeting behind the decks at a DJ gig in Belfast, Kaidi donning synths and flute, in a 2-hour set that gave both artists a glimpse of each other’s expansive musical literacy.
Sankofa meaning to ‘go back and get it ‘ in Ghana’s Twi language, offers a powerful motif throughout the record, exploring themes of diasporic connection, worship and musical culture over six tracks that effortlessly weave through genre and mode.
We’re delighted to share today the second single from the release, ‘Sankofa Song’ an energetic production of jazz phrasings and mercurial flurries of rhythm, layered with beautiful suspended vocal harmonies.
Sankofa Season marks the inaugural release for Kitto Records, a new label based in Belfast and London.
