It’s always a blessing when a new record shop pops up. Especially when said record shop has already cemented itself as the go-to spot for everything from minimal to global cuts, not only on home turf but across the pond too. Crevette Records only opened their doors last year in the city of Brussels but owner Pim Thomas has already set upon his next venture: launching the shop’s label arm.
Crevette’s inaugural release comes from Vitesse, a project by two friends from Brussels. Guillaume Kohn and Pieter Polspoel – DJs, producers and two of the minds behind Belgium’s Boutique Electronique parties – have been making music together for a couple of years now but this three-track EP marks their first official release.
In equal parts seductive and sleazy, our pick of the bunch is title track ‘In De Lucht’. Commanding vocals quickly usher in synth-pop melodies that shimmer and glisten overhead. The synths lend the production a tropical air, while the rhythmic bass of the DX7 provides a groove you can ride on all the way to the finish line.
Crevettes first release party will take place on 12th May at Fuse, Brussels. Check the Crevette FB page for updates on where to buy the record.
