Daptone Records have bought the goods to the table again with their latest 45 release ‘I’d Rather Go Blind’ by NYC four piece The Frightnrs. Hailing from Queens, The Frightnrs lay down a beautiful rocksteady version of the late great Etta James classic complete with a dub version on the flip side, this record is not to be missed.
In true Daptone style this tune has it all, from the much loved roots instrumentation that kicks the record to life, to bitter sweet dubbed out falsetto vocals. Couple this with the rich dub sounding production that could easily of come from the depths of Studio 1, this is a serious rocksteady tune right in time for the height of summer. Hats off to The Frightnrs, the reigning rocksteady kings of Queens, New York, for this future classic.
The Frightnrs’ ‘I’d Rather Go Blind’ is available now via Daptone Records.
