Editor’s Kutz is back for its fifth edition and its second double LP release exclusively for Record Store Day 2015. Gathering some of the hottest names in the edit’s scene, they’ve managed to produce the ideal track for a DJ to use as a dancefloor weapon, mixing tools and deep slow burners.
Much of these edits have great amounts of ‘frenzy’ within them, but the also succeed in balancing the compilation with the right amount of more downtempo tracks. They clearly put a lot of serious time and effort into selecting what are little known or impossible-to-find originals.
Opening with a rework by Sleazy McQueen and label honcho VinylAddicted that with such a bass line, you could certainly imagine hearing deep in a Moodymann set. JKriv’s edit of ‘Horizonte’ is a long melodic jam with Moog solos and acoustic guitars, while ‘Space Traveler’ brings a cut of early, beautifully sung Afro-futurism. The D1, ‘Baby Doll’ is a 7.5 minute builder with drums that desperately need to be heard on a big system, augmented with a very sexy rhythm section.
One of the standout tracks is the seemingly long-awaited disco edit of the all-time soul classic ‘Stay Together’ (here, ‘Stay 2Gether’) by Al Green. The amount of ‘pump’ brought to this rework guarantees that it’ll be a frequently rewound floorfiller, a certified terrace or summer party banger.
Editor’s Kutz #5 will be released exclusively for Record Store Day 2015. It is limited to 500 copies. Pre-order yours from Prime Direct.
