After releasing four albums, singer and producer Raphael Saadiq is by no means ‘new music’. However, with fewer than 7000 YouTube hits to its name at the time of writing, The Answer has certainly not gained the recognition it deserves. Saadiq is one of those artists which very few people have heard of, yet have almost certainly heard something he’s been involved with. His CV boasts collaborations with Whitney Housten, Mary J. Blige, A Tribe Called Quest, Snoop Dogg and Stevie Wonder, and The Way I See It won Best Album on iTunes in 2008. The Answer comes from Stone Rolling, Saadiq’s latest LP, and looks back to a troubled youth marked by the deaths of several siblings. This future soul classic makes for a fitting commemoration.
