Lany Recordings is a Belgian house label that prides itself on championing local producers based in and around the city of Ghent. Kolombo, San Soda and German duo Tube & Berger sit on its back catalogue, but the label is also big on supporting new talent, giving first releases to local Belgian talent. Included in the latter are duo Sue Avenue, consisting of friends Hannes Ledoux and Pieter Santens who met in their home town of Ghent. The music is both melodic and soulful, classically-informed and channeled through an appreciation for lounge music. For their first ever EP, they team up with some more established Ghent residents, Stavroz, who take the laid back house productions of the original into a more melancholy territory. Extra layers of piano and percussion are applied to give a deep, plodding aesthetic straight out the Nicolas Jaar handbook, creating a slow-burning, early evening balearic number.
Same Same EP is out 15th January. Pre-order from Juno.
