Monday Morning Mixtape 325

Credit: Melissa Johnson

Pause with 70s Yugoslavian jazz, 2003 Swedish electronic, 1999 German downtempo and 2017 Canadian ambient.

This week is curated by Surly, Footwork and Juke experimentalist, whose 2017 A Trip to Warsaw EP earned the New Zealand native several plaudits. Surly features on the Polyhymnia Remixed release from British-Bahraini jazz trumpeter Yazz Ahmed. A collection of reworks of her beautiful 2019 album Polyhymnia.

In his words “This is the music I like to start my day with. Some ambient/introspective stuff, some Jazz, but mostly Soundtracks and Library music. Soundtrack music is great for listening around the house or at work, especially creepy and sinister stuff, it makes you feel like a spy on a secret mission, when really you’re just watering the plants. I left out the horror soundtracks, I figured it’s probably not how most regular MMM listeners want to start their week. Hope you enjoy! If you’re in the mood, put on a disguise and spy on your cat.”

Be sure to check out Polyhymnia Remixed EP, out now and available from all good outlets.
