Last January, Munich record store and label, Public Possession saw in the new year with a collaborative effort from Baba Stiltz, Tzusing and Samo DJ. And as 2016 drew to a close, head honchos Marvin & Valentino brought Samo back to usher in the next, for what marked the label’s 19th release.
Joined this time by Japanese producer and Cos/Mes member 5ive, the pairing have turned out Same Song Teachers, a two-track EP packed with jaunty rhythms. The A-Side is one for the club, driven by dreamy addictive synths but after playing the flip ‘Dilemma’ on our ‘Ones to Watch in 2017’ radio show, we had to lock it down for a premiere.
The track chugs along, peppered with inhalations and exhalations of breath while a twinkling chime drifts freely, returning to the fore throughout to bring light to the track’s structure. As the breakdown hits, you’re advancing to the next level of a video game, the darting bassline a constant consciousness until the glistening melody chimes once again.
