Despite King Krule’s harrowing vocals making this track one of the most captivating of those on Mount Kimbie’s sophomore album, ‘Cold Spring Fault Less Youth’. Kyle Hall’s almost entire elimination of the vocals leaves the track with a powerful sparsity. Hall uses the space left to engulf the track with signature drum punches and hi hats, sporadically bringing in hypnotic snippets of Krule in a way not dissimilar to Caribou’s ‘Sun‘. The result is a brilliant corruption of the song into a dance floor track, yet still respects the sombreness of the original.
In contrast Oneman’s remix retains most of the original’s melody, both instrumental and lyrical. Subtly but effectively emphasising the beats and stretching out the ethereal echoes of the track. Oneman also enlists Jeremiah Jae’s laid-back gravelled rap to pack out the song with even more emotion.
Sounds like: Mount Kimbie, Caribou, FunkinEvil, Jeremih
