Premiere: Moony Me – Closer (To The Edge)

Vienna artist Moony Me conjures up an idyllic scene in ‘Closer’, with bustling drums providing the bedrock as samples rich in musicality form a wonderfully emotive landscape.

Fans of classic Pépé Bradock and Andrés productions rejoice, because Moony clearly has an affinity for the sound and previous releases on Uncanny Valley and Kisk’s Apparel Music also reassure us this is no one-off. Known to friends and family simply as Eduardo, our pilot lays down a pitched jazz sample to set a plaintive base for the luxurious Rhodes keys to take root and it’s this element that really ties the music together.

Tender strings and vocals lap into the mix but it’s the presence of those electric piano keys that gives the wow factor, the moments where Moony reins in the mix and gives the Rhodes more freedom might drop a few jaws.

In The Box Records release ‘Closer…’ alongside clubbier cut ‘Hello Pretty’, with Lay-Far, Junktion and Jacques Renault offering their interpretations. It’s out 20th May and available to pre-order from iTunes.
