Spring is here and with it come the intermittent bursts of sunlight we’re used to in northern Europe, in between long spells of rain and cloud. But that’s not affecting Art Alfie. The Stokcholmer is commonly known as companion to Mr Tophat, running the Karolvak imprint and also DJing and producing together. Here though, he’s stepped up on his own, to offer up ten tracks that make him think of spring in the countryside, from psychedelic folk to ethio-jazz.
Mr. Tophat & Art Alfie play Studio 338 on April 16 alongside Matthew Herbert, Jeremy Underground, Italojohnson, Robag Wruhme and Chez Damier.
Jefferson Airplane – Today
One of my fav songs all categories. Lovely cheesy love lyrics.
Bo Hansson – The Escape
Beautiful Song by passed away Swedish psyche hero Bo Hansson. Always a very illustrative sound.
Mulatu Astatke – Tezeta (Nostalgia)
“The founder” of ethio-jazz with one of his finest moments.
Karen Dalton – Something On My Mind
Karen Dalton was a, in my oppinion, slightly overlooked folk musician from New York that did a couple of fantastic songs, with this beeing the best in my book.
Shugo Tokumaro – Rum Hee
Blissing japanese pop.
Brooks O´Dell – You Better Make Up Your Mind
Forgotten soul gem that my friend Leolyxxx put me on to. Fascinating how ambitious fantastic music like this could just stay hidden.
J-Walk – Soul Vibration
Lovely loopy modern soul infused music from Manchester
Parsley Sound – Springs Near
Almost too cute. Almost…
Varg – Stambanan
Cosiest song ever released on Northern Electronics. The re-issue of Varg´s album Misantropen is coming out soon.
Ishi vu – O Vad Det Låter Bra
Swedish wonder kid Ishivuu with a quite lovely house track based on Samples from the classic Swedish childrens tv-show “Fem Myror Är Fler Än Fyra Elefanter”. Out soon on Junk Yard Connections.
