Belgian beatsmith Peter Van Hoesen has been in the game since 1993. Never one to seek the limelight, he has quietly garnered the support of the DJ community by focusing on his musical output rather than his social media image. Often releasing on his own label, Time To Express, Van Hoesen has also seen success through labels such as Hotflush and Ostgut Ton. Constant developments to his studio and live performance setup mean that his sound consequently evolves all the time. Ahead of his Fabric date this Saturday where he plays alongside Cari Lekebusch, Van Hoesen has selected his current favourite tracks to get us in the mood.
1. Samuli Kemppi – Power Of Voltages
The man from Helsinki, with my favourite track from his recent album The Observer Effect.
2. Hieroglyphic Being – The Seer Of Cosmic Visions
Jamal Moss never fails to impress me with his psychedelic techno-jazz. For educated dancefloors only.
3. Demdike Stare – TRathe
Haunting, sub-bass driven goodness from the Modern Love crew.
4. Ekserd – Hidden Document II (Svreca Remix)
Lately Svreca has been delivering great remixes. This one has everything: drive, space, hypnotism.
5. Arad – Grand Job
Great electro vibes here. I especially love the trancy synth lines. Very refreshing.
6. Peter Mannerfelt – White Noise/Pink Ladies
Everywhere I play this, it hits the crowd like a jackhammer. Its massive production leaves everyone stunned by its brutal minimalism.
7. Kitkatone – Cheapskate
This track starts with a dry, thumping kick, making you believe it’s another one of those rather uninspiring bleak techno tracks. Luckily the lead line arrives just in time to take this into a way more interesting territory. There’s a bit of an updated Detroit vibe going on here, in the best possible way.
8. Carrier One – Underwater Device
Spacious, ultradeep drum’n’bass with a stripped down, techno-oriented approach.
