Day 17 of our 2020 charity Advent Calendar, in aid of You Make It & Project Protect.
Communicating his own message of progression in his own way is Atlanta-based producer, BLACK FORCES. Making himself known for gritty club-ready house productions filled with industry, rawness and memoranda of the black struggle in the US, his powerful unapologetic project with self-releases and recently on the 2MR imprint is breaking the status-quo of Atlanta-produced music.
Today’s track is a reflection of current times, the longing for the freedom and catharsis of the dance floor. Forces taps into the hallmarks of electro and jungle, taking full drops and high tempo breaks, and ramming them home with trance synth lines.
“The energy of bodies on the floor leaves me sentimental for times I was never even alive, for Youtube videos of underground structures pulsing with the sound of the present, the past and the future. I can close my eyes and feel myself there sometimes, can you?”
This year we’ve chosen to split profits from the release between two charities, both of whom are doing important work within their respective fields.
The first charity is London-based organisation You Make It, a creative programme that offers young women access to tools, networks and experiences — group learning, 1-1 mentoring, work experience, start-up support and 1-1 pastoral support — giving them the confidence to transform their lives through personal empowerment.
The second is Nigeria-based initiative Project Protect, a subdivision of Burna Boy’s charitable NGO The Reach, launched to help provide financial, medical and legal resources for EndSars protestors during and after the protests.
