Ranie Ribeiro Fortes aka D-Ribeiro is a name you will be hearing a lot more of in 2015. Released this month, the Purple Ghost Dance EP is a 6-track jaw-dropper from the L.A.-via-Rotterdam producer, out on R&S Records‘ London-based imprint Meda Fury.
Sitting somewhere between Floating Points’ Shadows EP and Flying Lotus’ Cosmagramma, the EP is elegant electronica at its finest. A love-affair of futurist hip-hop and cosmic house in potent proportions, each tracks stands on its own as a spaced-out masterpiece dripping with jazzy melodies and P-Funk basslines amongst the contours of abstract beat patterns.
‘Subliminal Seducer’ is a serious highlight for us, infusing plush 8-bit arpeggiator lines with electro-funk bass tones against some off-kilter rhythms and tender vocals ghosting between each ear.
