Outboxx’s Sequential Circles / Moon Loop EP marks Jacob Martin and Matthew Lambert’s second release on Brstl. If the first characterised the disco-tinged revival Bristol was seeing at the time, this EP leans more towards a deeper, non-vocalised techno sound. The title track cleverly uses reverb and stabbing synth sequences to create tension. The rough and raw percussion makes this a dancefloor-ready track. Something different, yet recognisable. ‘Moon Loop’ couples a chugging bassline with Matt’s smooth synth melody, sometimes giving way to stripped-back percussive moments that elevate the track beyond a simple DJ tool, to a very listenable example of a new wave of expressive techno that is coming out of the UK at the moment.
