I’m pretty sure this is the first time we’ve ever written about cars on Stamp The Wax, but considering it involves a collaboration with Canadian Hip-Hop beat-freak Lunice and the forward thinking Electronic label LuckyMe, we thought we’d mention our gargantuan respect for Lexus.
It’s unsurprising really that Lexus are the automobile brand at the forefront of music, with a history steeped in Hip-Hop references as the pinnacle whip to procure. Off the top of my head, Kanye West lyrics “she couldn’t afford a car so she named her daughter Alexis”, Jay Z sporting the iconic Lexus GS in the video for Dead Presidents II and lyrics like “came in the Range, hopped out that Lexus”. There’s a billion-and-one more references I could list off, but you get the gist.
Anyway, Lexus seemed to have taken a quantum leap forward and designed a new car called the Lexus NX, intended to appeal to those who lead urban and active lifestyles. Mirroring this, they’ve launched a digital art exhibition and online platform called NX-Perspectives, challenging some of the world’s most innovative artists across fashion, design, and music to create a unique piece of performance art that draws inspiration from the bold design of the new Lexus NX.

So this is where the exciting music comes in. Titled NX-Illuminated, Lunice and LuckyMe have put their hyper-creative hats and conjured up some pretty captivating visuals for Lunice’s brand new single Can’t Wait To, inspired by the sharp and distinctive lighting of the Lexus NX.
Leveraging his unique approach to live performance, the music video is projection-mapped to create a surreal illuminated universe where futuristic op-art and moiré inspired patterns parallels the angles of the car – pretty cool stuff. Amongst it all, powerful beams of light mirror the sharp lines found in the headlights of the NX, cutting through the room while Lunice stays in continuous motion with some seriously dope dance moves. That boy can jive.
