On the eve that Dilla fans in Bristol paid tribute at a night hosted by The Doctor’s Orders, friend and fellow Detroitian, Kenny Dixon Jr, laid down his own homage just a stone’s throw away (sorry) in Motion. Maybe it was just the aura of a Moodymann set, or something was in the air the month of the anniversary of Dilla’s birth and death, but Workinonit struck a chord with me in a way it’s never managed to before. A fitting start to a feature that respects how the dancefloor can introduce or reaffirm the power of certain timeless music. Big up Kenny for a monumental set and RIP James.
