Earlier this year Amsterdam-based duo Makéz made their debut on London DJ and producer Melvo Baptiste’s The Remedy Project, an imprint indebted to uplifting a new wave of musicians and producers who are making music that’ll soothe your soul. Teaming up with dreamcastmoe, a firm favourite here at STW HQ, the track ‘Phases’ pairs the DC rapper’s saccharine tones with Makéz’s blend of future-facing soul and jazz-tinged house.
As a follow up to the single release, the label has enlisted the talents of a London musical stalwart to breathe new life into the original. Dego needs little introduction in our circles; the 2000Black boss, close collaborator of Kaidi Tatham, and Mercury Prize-nominated producer has had a major influence on the British underground dance music scene, as well as being a pioneering force behind the London-born broken beat sound. On his rework he brings that signature warm shuffle and those syncopated rhythms we’ve come to know and love him for, resulting in a flip that’s packed full of funk and groove.
