Premiere: Jimpster feat. You – Voodoo

To name Jamie Odell, more commonly known as Jimpster, as a prolific producer would be a charming scratch on the surface of a densely influential career. With a seventh LP planned for late February and his labels Freerange and Delusions of Grandeur consistently providing a space for cutting edge electronic music, it’s safe to say that the world of contemporary deep house would not be the same without Jimpster’s signature warm touch.

On his upcoming long player Birdhouse he goes full circle, taking a step back towards his early inspirations of jazz, 70s fusion and sample-based downtempo electronica. Records like Messages From The Hub established him as a seminal subversive voice in dance music, and on Birdhouse he returns to those roots. With soulful touches, live musicians and stellar vocal features, this LP is set to be his most fully realised body of work to date.

For today’s premiere, Jimpster is joined by sultry, slick talking, NYC poet Yoh, for a neo-soul track that is both classical and mystifying. Yoh’s voice sits comfortably over meditative piano chords, dynamically punctuated by the crunchiest snares and crispiest kicks. The collaboration is a revelation set in heaven and the resulting track Voodooglistens with the textures and tones of a hidden dimension.

Birdhouse will be released on 25th February.
