Premiere: Footshooter ft. MA.MOYO & Isobel Risk – Passing Clouds

The SE postcode, and London at large, has long remained a hotbed for artists and creatives alike; an underground community coming together through a shared passion for music, culture and nightlife. A producer embedded in this scene is Barney Whittaker who, under the moniker Footshooter, is known for pairing the jazz-infused sounds of South London with warm house grooves on releases for Dance Regular and Rhythm Section, alongside Jack Stephenson-Oliver.

His debut long player Southside Hymns – which comes via Astral Black – pays homage, in both sound and name, to the London music community that shaped him. Amongst the sonics across the release are a horn-laden tribute to South East London club space ‘Juno Café’, alongside the city drive-time soundtrack of ‘Twilight’ (which calls on guest vocalist Albertina) and our pick, an ode to community-ran venue ‘Passing Clouds’, which marries a shuffling broken-beat groove with dreamy vocals, atmospheric pads and the beguiling spoken word of literary and sound artist MA.MOYO.

Southside Hymns is out on 15th October on Astral Black – grab your copy.
