South London singer-songwriter Elisa Imperilee has been busy of late, releasing three singles in 2020, with two coming during the fall in the form of collaborations with underground community music collective, The Silhouettes Project. All three served as welcome reminders of Imperilee’s silken tones that made many sit up and take note with early releases alongside longtime collaborator, producer Srigala.
There is an audible maturation in the pair’s latest offering ‘ Water’ an assured delivery of soul and beats. Whilst it’s production is full of round textures and probing technique, Srigala does everything but overpower; deftly and opportunely augmenting melodies and cadences, whilst giving the Imperilee’s vocal line space to serenade. Similar growth is also heard in her lyrics, which are a poetic delivery of her own experience of self-care and mental health, a topic still very much needing exposure. “This song chronicles my coming to terms with the fact I had to dive into those difficult emotions to get out of it.”
Water is out tomorrow Friday 8th January, a self-release with the support of Help Musicians Do It Differently. Pre-save here.
Expect to be submerged in Imperilee’s world as she also delivers her first visuals directed by Almass Badat.
