Inspired by the sounds of 80s NYC and the no wave scene, London via New York musician and producer Baba Ali has crafted his own brand of funk-infused punk, releasing music via Danger Mouse’s 30th Century Records.
Inspired by our canine companions, ‘Walk A Dog’ treads a similar path to his previous outings, fusing Baba’s commanding vocals with a groove-laden bassline and raw guitar licks.
“An ode to human’s best friend. With its tongue hanging out, its wagging tail, its affectionate eyes. Loyal, courageous, obedient — It’s always by your side. It barks and occasionally bites. ‘Walk a Dog’ was partly inspired from watching a dog food commercial for Blue Buffalo “Wilderness”. Nik and I figured they could use a better jingle…”
This year we’ve chosen to split profits from the release between two charities, both of whom are doing important work within their respective fields.
The first charity is London-based organisation You Make It, a creative programme that offers young women access to tools, networks and experiences — group learning, 1-1 mentoring, work experience, start-up support and 1-1 pastoral support — giving them the confidence to transform their lives through personal empowerment.
The second is Nigeria-based initiative Project Protect, a subdivision of Burna Boy’s charitable NGO The Reach, launched to help provide financial, medical and legal resources for EndSars protestors during and after the protests.
