Day 3 of our 2020 charity Advent Calendar, in aid of You Make It & Project Protect.
Doha based producer, DJ and radio host, GoodMostlyBad is just getting started with her journey as an artist. Releasing her debut Baby EP in September, she wasted no time in presenting her prowess, through dauntlessly sauntering beats, in sounding “intimate thoughts, discoveries and experiences of a woman navigating through life on her own terms,”
Today’s track earns her more cachet as she takes 70s porno-inspired synth-pop sonics and ups the ante, with a reverential nod to ghetto funk and hip hop, acknowledging an evident self-assuredness.
“Inspired by the 70s golden age of porn and the film of the same name, this track mimics the emotions/scenes of the film. The movie is a parody of the old Batman TV show and is quite possibly the first example of pornographic parody ever. That distinction makes up for its less-flattering reputation as one of the worst porno movies ever made.”
This year we’ve chosen to split profits from the release between two charities, both of whom are doing important work within their respective fields.
The first charity is London-based organisation You Make It, a creative programme that offers young women access to tools, networks and experiences — group learning, 1-1 mentoring, work experience, start-up support and 1-1 pastoral support — giving them the confidence to transform their lives through personal empowerment.
The second is Nigeria-based initiative Project Protect, a subdivision of Burna Boy’s charitable NGO The Reach, launched to help provide financial, medical and legal resources for EndSars protestors during and after the protests.
