Over the last month the music and events industry has entered unchartered territory due to the Covid-19 lockdown. Many artists have been left in a financially vulnerable position so, with a mission to help some of those effected, three weeks ago Ransom Note reached out to some friends of the website with the challenge to make a track in collaboration with another producer, musician or vocalist, remotely, in 10 days. The result is Pen Pals: a compilation featuring 15 collaborations from 32 artists.
Bringing together artists from all corners of the musical spectrum, as well as some of the R$N’s close knit family, the compilation features contributions from the likes of Manfredas and Fantastic Twins, Malcolm with the vocal talents of J.C. from Vox Low, a dreamy collaboration from Sapphire Slows and Maria Teriaeva and an intricately composted cut from Otik and Tom VR.
Our pick comes from R$N label mate and Silencio boss Bawrut who joins forces with Chico Blanco, a young artist from Granada who also provides buoyant Latin vocals to the track, which blends urban, techno and house and flaunts Bawrut’s signature bass and drum work.
Due to the current situation R$N have increased royalties for all artists involved and, whilst the Covid-19 lockdown restrictions apply, accounting will be processed fortnightly. Profits from the compilation will also provide financial support for Ransom Note who have been heavily impacted by the halt of the events industry. The artwork has been created by Manchester design studio DR.ME.
Pen Pals will be released on Ransom Note Records on 24th April – grab your copy.
