Day 8 of our 2019 charity Advent Calendar, in aid of War Child.
Low-slung boogie from Brisbane singer Ha Na, paying tribute to a golden era disco icon. ‘Keep It Light’ was originally released by Australian label G. Lounge as part of their debut release G. Lounge. Mix Vol 1, featuring music from their Brisbane home town and Melbourne artists.
From Ha Na: “‘Keep It Light’ is a whimsical ode to an idyllic headspace for entering into and navigating love – keeping as much of life’s complications and our own struggles out of it and just enjoying another person. It’s a make believe scenario in the song, but something Ha Na hopes she can procure in the future. I lay down the track in a super short and sweet session with producer Mblsh, on a beautiful spring night in Brissie. We were in a playful and light zone as we were on our way to a friend’s friend’s birthday party.”
Our featured charity for 2019 is War Child, whose work in post-conflict zones is done a bit differently. They recognise humans need more than just food and shelter to flourish after a war, breaking the cycle that leads to repeated conflicts by giving them purpose, education and cultural enrichment.
The dance floor has long-since been a safe space for the displaced, marginalised and persecuted to find community and expression. Safe Spaces represent the core of War Child’s work, providing vital refuge for young people to play, learn and regain their childhood.
