Operating out of London and Paris, crate digging label Africa Seven have “their hearts firmly rooted in the universal motherland”. Since starting up the imprint in 2015 they’ve released an enviable discography of dusty forgotten gems from across the continent, since then they’ve also launched an edit series, breathing new life into some of their favourite original cuts.
The A7 Edits series kicked off last year with two reworks from Stefan Ritteri, and now they’re back with their second instalment, enlisting the dexterity of JD Twitch to rework two favourites from past label compilations.
The A-Side sees Twitch put his hand to M’Bamina’s 1982 cut ‘Kilowi-Kilowi’, a band from Italy made up of musicians from Congo, Benin and Cameroon. The Optimo head makes subtle changes to the original, stretching it out and adding effects to transform this upbeat cut into an understated disco groover.
A7 Edits is out on 3rd May – preorder your copy.
