Danish producer and Regelbau affiliate C.K brings his signature euphoric house sound to Sunken Rock Recordings. With the exception of a 2016 12” from Kenny Duo, the Stockholm-based label run by Doc Jay, Mount Analogue, and Förslag På Musik has previously stuck to releasing work by the label-heads themselves. With the Doublethink EP, C.K. unsurprisingly proves to be a fine addition to the roster. The EP presents two blissful late-night house tracks each with an alternative version intended for alternative times and spaces.
The title-track, ‘Doublethink (Danse Mix)’ offers an updated version of the euphoric Italian dream house sound that laid the foundations for the development of trance in the early 90s. Major-key piano chords resonate against a balearic backdrop of lush pads as an elastic bassline throbs off-beat between the kicks. Perhaps the boldest reference here is the stuttering gated vocal, which points directly and unabashedly back to trance as a primary influence.
