Premiere: Prequel – Lefty

They say Australians don’t travel well in the European winter and it’s true, most of our talented pals from down under only dare head north once our axis tips towards the sun. Usually we would’ve put our favourite sunbather Prequel in that batch, but it looks like he’s donned the goose fat and braved the Swedish temperatures in November to land a debut 12″ on Local Talk.

The Rhythm Section regular has supplied two accomplished EPs for Bradley Zero’s label, heavy on the Rhodes and ranging from the transcendental to the straight up bumping. For the B-side on LT081, Jamie bares his teeth a little more. The beginning, with its Rhodes and synth caresses, draws to mind the intros of some Harvey Sutherland work, but they make way for a sharp drop into acidic territories in the second half. Prequel hasn’t shied away from his love for Detroit on previous releases, but ‘Lefty’ shows a departure from the city’s soulful side and into its darker recesses.

LT081 is out in December on Local Talk – buy from Red Eye and deejay.
