Premiere: Pépe – Harajuku

Deep Sea Frequency’s output is guided by a code of “chopped and screwed multi-dimensional dance floor and non dance floor frequencies.” Headed up by DJ’s Or:la and Breakwave – who also run the Meine Nacht parties together in Liverpool – the imprint launched in May with, Kyoto Dance, a two track EP from Or:la of percussive oriental sounds and twinkling bass driven grooves.

Stepping up to the plate for the label’s second offering is recent Lobster Theremin signee, Pépe. This year has been a busy one for the Valencia born producer with EPs on In Records, Renascence and Anti Skate, following a blissed out downtempo album on Sprung Records last year. Now we are in other-worldly electro realms with Weightless in Orbit; a trippy space-age exploration.

‘Harajuku’ opens with dreamy reflective synths that soar high above the cosmos. A light two step break and crisp 808 snare brings texture, while the beguiling bassline and cosmic synth chords channel that classic Drexciya sound. With this the fourth release under his belt this year and with another on the way for the Lobster Theremin crew, Pépe is a producer worth keeping tabs on.

Weightless in Orbit is up for preorder now.
