We stumbled across Manchester’s Olsen, aka Andrew Anderton after the release of his Totoro album on Super Recordings. The release passed by relatively quietly but for us it established a connection to a producer whose sound exhibited assurance and sensibility. Four years have passed and Olsen had slipped to the back of our minds, until now. He marks his triumphant return, and a debut release on London imprint Perfect Motion, with new EP Bloom.
Having cut his teeth on the Northern club circuit holding residencies at Manchester’s four20 nights and at Wire in Leeds, there’s a sense that Olsen has an ear for what constitutes a blissful late night groove. Upholding a more mature and refined sound, this thoughtfully produced four tracker is certain to transcend dance floors across the country. Our pick of the bunch, title track ‘Bloom’, layers static white noise and crisp claps over delicate reverberating chords and twinkling melodies, each element slowly revealing itself as the song soars and builds.
Bloom is out now and available digitally via the Perfect Motion Bandcamp
