Rebirth Records are continuing the celebration of their 10th birthday with a remix compilation filled with reworked goodies from the last decade. Palms Trax’s remix of Butch and Christian Voigt’s 2014 hit ‘The Infamous’, is our pick here. With PT deservedly picking up a lot of support in the last year for his eclectic approach to DJing and production, this track adds to his arsenal, building on the acidic sounds we’ve heard from him in tracks like ‘Sumo Acid Crew’.
The original mix is a lesson in building soft jazz, a crescendo of percussion and synth. Layered to perfection, this Smudge Mix adds an acid-filled lower section and elements of the original B-side (the Robytek vs Shield Re-edit), such as the shuffling percussive elements that transform it into more of a dance floor ready anthem. Unlike previous versions, the piano line is not the main focus and features very subtly, but with a real focus on the driving rhythm, there’s little that can go wrong.
