Premiere: I Rainy & Rex Leon – Lighter Shades Of Blue

Rainy City Music should be a label that any self respecting fan of 90’s deep house should know. Making some of the deepest cuts that ever came out of the UK, their records have endorsed by everyone from Motor City Drum Ensemble to Mike Huckaby, emulating a deep and dreamy Detroit sound that is cherished by house heads worldwide.

To celebrate 20 years, label boss Irfan Rainy is curating an eight track LP featuring music from Detroit’s Wajeed, Yaruba Records’ Toto Chiavetta and 6th Borough Project’s Craig Smith. Our standout track is from Irfan and Rex Leon, who has linked up with Rex Leon to craft a six minute journey of deep and pure grooves. A Ron Trent-esque drum pattern and chord structure keep the track flowing for the duration, offset beautifully by the jazz and funk elements, which manifest in the form of measured licks and frills on various instruments including the bass guitar, moog synth, piano and congas. ‘Lighter Shades of Blue’ is a true tribute to the Motor City and could stand up well against any Glenn Underground track from the 90s.

Forward 20 Years Of Rainy City Music 1996-2016 is out 24th March – buy from Juno.
