Feminist techno collective Discwoman have linked up with Allergy Season to curate a free 42 track compilation with 100% of profits from going to selected charities who oppose the hateful policies of the incoming US administration: The American Civil Liberties Union, Callen-Lorde, The National Immigration Law Centre, and Planned Parenthood.
The tracklist is an all star line-up with offerings from DJ Stingray, Shaun J. Wright, Umfang and many more, but our pick of the bunch is a unique DJ tool from Jayda G. The most striking aspect of the track is her use of an elegiac choral sample that invokes the sensation of being in a cathedral. The counterpoint chorus is ever present through the track as she builds and releases tension with ominous drums that crescendo towards a progression, before Jayda filters the vocal down to near silence. The formula is simple but effective and shows a side of Jayda’s productions that isn’t often seen in her DJ sets.
Buy ‘Sestra’s Cry’ and the whole Physically Sick compilation from the Allergy Season Bandcamp – all proceeds go to charity. Jayda G plays Farr Festival, 13th – 15th July.
