Nebraska’s sophomore release on his label, Friends & Relations, is set to be his first record of the new year. The inaugural record on the imprint showed Nebraska’s talent for using disco and soul samples to create warm, loopy house music, and the latest release follows this formula, building on it to keep things fresh.
The B-side, ‘Pintxos’, which we premiere today, is an upfront house tune pushed forward by a propulsive bassline. Nebraska’s drums are crunchy in all the right places, and are arranged into a subtle breakbeat pattern that complements the bassline smartly. While lots of Nebraska’s previous work uses vocal snippets, ‘Pintos’ relies on a killer jazz-cafe piano loop to add the personality to the track. The keys float around Nebraska’s tight drums, and if deployed at the right time of the evening is a dead cert to trigger a number of air pianos on the dancefloor.
F&R002 is out 20th Feb – pre-order from Juno. Catch Nebraska playing live in London on 9th Feb for Labyrinth, with support from Aaron L. £5 tickets available from RA.
