Day 22: Jace XL – Christmas In My Mind

Day 22 of our charity Advent Calendar in aid of The Steve Reid Foundation.

What a ride we’ve had so far in our charity advent calendar, but there’s no letting up. Day 22 and we are extremely humbled to bring you a specially recorded Christmas song, courtesy of Rhythm Section-affiliate and Melbourne soul delight, Jace XL.

Sowing the seeds of this seasonal holiday being a time for all of us to come together with friends and family, Jace joined up with a plethora of close Aussie acquaintances to write this rather magical track.

Simon Mavin (Keys, Percussion, Backing Vocals) and Paul Bender (Bass, Guitar, Mixing) of Melbourne intergalactic-jazz-soul-everything-amazing group Hiatus Kaiyote join the fun (a group that Jace supplies sparkling backing vocals for alongside Silentjay). Allysha Joy and Ziggy of Melbourne neo-soul talents 30/70 Collective also join Jace on backing vocals, alongside Laneous of Vulture St Tape Gang. Nick Martyn (Drums), Elle Shimada (Strings) and Louie Michael (Mastering) finish off this dreamy super-group that we now want to record a whole album of Xmas originals that can soundtrack our whole December next year.

The production on ’Christmas In My Mind’ is soul-warming; everything from jingle bells to gospel-sounding choirs and twinkling piano scales. Jace XL lifts this to pure wonder with the silkiest vocals and perfectly phrased lyrics. We’ll be dining out on this for the foreseeable future.

Big love and happy holidays to our Melbourne friends, Syrene Favero and of course Jace XL <3
