Day 21 of our charity Advent Calendar in aid of The Steve Reid Foundation.
One half of the illustrious, now-retired, Melbourne duo Zanzibar Chanel, Luis CL has been a busy man over the last few months with solo efforts on Australian big hitters Big Doint and Superconscious reaching his way into many esteemed selectors’ record bags.
For the Advent Calendar he’s donated a joint effort with recent collaborator EN.V, a intimate and glimmering machine workout showing a lighter side in comparison to his earlier works. Pushing through lush chords are simple but grooving basslines that resonate the deep house sound of yesteryear, slowly burning through nonchalant melodies that feel perfect for those late night and eyes closed moments on the dance floor. A song that has an instrument for every dancer to hold onto and one best appreciated with just a few in the room.
Here’s Luis with a few words on the track: “‘Pastie’ was made in 2014 in the middle of winter. At this time when we didn’t have much money and were eating lots of vegetable pasties, EN.V was really sick so we would dream of being warm & at the beach eating hot chips.”
Download ‘Pastie’ from our Bandcamp. It’s pay-what-you-like, with all proceeds going to The Steve Reid Foundation, a charity founded by Gilles Peterson that aims to support musicians in dedication to the visionary jazz drummer.
