Founded on the principals of Paradise Garage and The Loft, Studio 89 take a colourful approach to throwing parties, be it the playful and creative music curation, a new label  – or the flamboyant artwork that often accompanies. To celebrate their fifth birthday tonight, they’ve picked out five musical highlights from the last half decade of parties, which you can listen to and read about below.

808 State – In Yer Face (Bicep Remix)

Here’s a clip from our most recent party where we hosted a stage in the Old Coroners Court for Simple Things Festival. Over the last year we have been perfecting our unique lighting system to use at our events. We approach the lighting at our recent events like it’s an art installation rather than the usual club lighting set up but make sure it still works/reacts to the music as well as setting an ambience in the room. This with a particularly euphoric moment from Mike Servito’s incredible deep and groovy acid-house set.

Depeche Mode – Enjoy the Silence

Piers from Softrocks was our first guest to join us at our latest Bristol venture: Carry on, turn me on – a series of secret parties in a former sex dungeon. Check out a clip from that party here.

First Choice – ‘Let No Man Put Asunder (Walter Gibbons Mix)’

We were extremely privileged to have Prosumer wrap things up with us in our final party under the noodle bar in Cardiff. Our long time resident Nick Bennett played every party in that space so it was very fitting and special when he played a memorable set just before Prosumer.

After two great years of throwing parties in a super intimate space with all our closest friends, this was the perfect send off. This clip captures Prosumer at the end of his set with some questionable dance moves over his shoulder from our boy Bennett.

Prince – ‘Wanna Be Your Lover’

When we first started doing parties in London, we took up residency in the Columbian restaurant next door and affiliated with Corsica Studios. This stands out as a highlight during our 3rd Birthday event. towards the end of Craig Richard’s disco set, Seth Troxler steps up for an impromptu b2b. Watch a clip here.

Chicago – ‘Street Player’

It’s only right to throw in another oldie from our early days. Dave Little was a regular one of the amazing local DJs we would have alongside Nick and our guest for the evening back then. We owe a lot to Dave and his crew that ran an amazing night called Backroom in an old bank vault in Cardiff. Those guys schooled us big time musically and inspired us with using unusual spaces as venues. Watch the clip of it playing here.
