In just under two weeks time, Roscella Bay festival returns to the shores of Western France. Located in the old port area of La Rochelle, the organisers have upped the ante for the second edition, boasting international draws like Marcellus Pittman, FunkinEven, Daniel Wang, Yussef Kamaal, Marcel Vogel, Mr Mendel and sofrito alongside many leading lights in the French club scene. The festival promises a wide array of sounds, ethio-jazz, rare groove, acid techno, disco, house, as well as live performances varying from a full funk band to a one man sampling experiment.
An intimate affair with just 1500 attendees in the day, the main festival winds down late in the evening, then two clubs go on through to dawn. With the founders having strong links to La Rochelle, there’s a concerted effort to maintain the festival’s connections to its locality. The opening night free for all to take in, and much of the food and visual arts are sourced from the region. This tight, considered approach suggests it could be a very good weekend indeed.
Saturday and Sunday day tickets are available from the Roscella Bay webiste.
