Long time favourite Melbourne-based label Butter Sessions team up with Noise In My Head – a fortnightly NTS Radio Show from Sydney – with a compilation of some of Australia’s finest talent. The compilation is filled with deep and trippy excursions from well known artists such as duo Albrecht La’Brooy (whose EP on Analog Attic was a highlight record of 2015), Lobster Theremin mainstay Daze, Untzz‘ ever wonderful Mic Mills and Butter Sessions own Cale Sexton. Alongside the regular names the LP introduces a lot of promising new acts showcasing talent from the depths of the Australian underground.
Our pick of the bunch is Turner Street Sound’s ‘Stoned Mix’, a collaboration between Dan White (Butter Sessions) and Ryan Hunter. A song that collates Larry Heard-inspired chords and a lead line that builds ever so slowly into a much unexpected amen break that’s introduced by echoes from pirate radio’s past. As intrusive as an amen break sounds in that combination, it refreshingly isn’t.
