As part of the second instalment of Absolut’s new remix project, Mr Scruff takes on ‘Lock & Rock’ by Local Talk-affiliate Lay-Far, tilting the original onto a distinctly bass-heavy axis. He’s always been one to add a light-hearted flare to dancefloor fillers, but his growth spurt between Ninja Tuna and his latest album Friendly Bacteria has confirmed the much loved producer’s newly adopted style of maturity.
Focusing on the mastery of synths and funky riffs, Señor Scruff starts the remix by allowing the gentle rhythm laid down by Lay-Far to ease us in, before quickly changing direction and landing with a welcoming thud into his signature rib-tickling, wonky-bass and synth-heavy keys. There’s already something proudly Scruff-esque about Lay-Far’s infectious original, but have a few listens to Mr Scruff’s rework and you’ll be charmed even more.
