Roll out the welcome wagon, we’ve got a new label in town. Hollick, the man behind successful radio show and parties, No Bad Days, has joined forces with friend and Boiler Room sage, Gabriel Szatan, to embark on the next phase of his musical takeover. And the job of swearing in the new imprint lies with Polish producer Selvy (aka Wojciech Grynko), and his tropical-tinged video game house.

Boasting releases on Polish staple Transatlantyk, as well as FASRAT and Dutch label, Legendary Sound Research (see our Premiere), this Poznan native further proves that you can’t underestimate the young cohort of Polish house producers coming to the fore. POPS exhibits a refined collation of whirring house tracks that are intrepid yet playful, refusing to shy away from intricate flourishes of percussion and pounding basslines.

There’s absolutely no messing around as Selvy kicks off proceedings with recent Boiler Room debut, ‘Wishing Well’. In the words of No Bad Days it channels “Disney-via-John Carpenter” – cinematic trimmings and a surging rev of bass made lively by a throng of cheekily popping marimbas. With all the tack of a PS1 video game, ‘Basics’ hits us with spirited synth stabs and an effortless kick that paves the way for a warm bounce and playful synth notes to take centre stage.

On the flip side ‘Bump Pump’ proves worthy of its name, the profound bass line challenging you to writhe emphatically without hesitation. Trickles of percussion rapidly enter the equation; xylophone rings, glistening crescendos and the hollow crash of a gong cement it as a dynamic groove for the floor. Bringing the EP to a close, title track ‘POPS’ carries that vibrant mantle right up to the last note, with a helping hand from VHS and space-age synth notes. These audacious productions affirm one thing: if this is the caliber of music we can expect from No Bad Days’ future releases, then we eagerly await what other treats they have in store.

POPS EP is out mid April – preorder from the No Bad Days Bandcamp
