Premiere: Laurence Guy – One For You, Lou

There’s a clear duality at play in a Laurence Guy production. Not just through a combination of elements, but often with a clear separation between a beatless intro powered by a strong musicality before giving way to a weighty kick-drum to give it some deep house vigour. It results in a body of work that offers an outlet for relaxation away from the club, but also a moment of calm and suspense before reigniting a dancefloor.

Already living up to the promise we predicted in our 2016 Ones to Watch list, Londoner Laurence Guy steps up for Cin Cin for his next release. A label run by Fort Romeau and Warm’s Ali Tillett, each release is a split 12″, bringing together friends old and new in a spirit of collaboration and togetherness. Following some heavyweight acid punches from Michigan man Todd Osborn on the a-side, Mr Guy takes over the flip continuing a formula than made his EP for Church such a winner last year. ‘One For You, Lou’ is a swirling smokescreen of a track with murmuring voices calling out in the haze, while the cascading piano chords on ‘Ubik’ feels like a torrent of water hitting you after a dam breaks.

Cin Cin 002 is out 23rd February – pre-order from Phonica and Juno. Watch out for our Label Spotlight with Cin Cin dropping soon, with lots of forthcoming exclusive.
