As reissues go it rarely gets as talked about as this. And rightly so, considering the eye-watering prices some of these tracks were going for. Thankfully Luv N’ Haight have compiled a selection of Gloria Ann Taylor’s most soulful delights into a beautiful triple gatefold, double LP package.
One of the choice cuts on this compilation comes from ‘What’s Your World’, released as a 7in version, which we bring you an online exclusive for as part of our Advent Calendar. Originally a Leon Ware song, Gloria brings her trademark empowering tone and poignant delivery to the lyrics, slowing the tempo and drawing out the guitar arrangement. Rather than take these two versions separately, as original and cover, their power comes as a pair, with Gloria’s version being a response to Leon’s. It gives a sense of striving for a collective openness to one another and ultimately society as a whole.
