With releases from Max Graef, Glenn Astro, Wayne Snow and Uffe, Tartelet Records has become a who’s who of artists that dissect the border between jazz, hip-hop and house. There’s no sign of them stopping either as IMYRMIND steps to the fore after numerous collaborations on the label, with an EP of MPC-crunched house.
‘Upturn’ is our pick of the bunch, bringing a little slice of sunshine, oozing a Samba style from the off with its Latin American influenced percussion and cabasas. Laid over the top, IMYRMIND switches trombone licks to jazzy piano riffs, adding to the carnival vibrancy throughout. All of this is tied expertly together with an undulating LFO synth line and hip-hop influenced beat, elements that have become a calling card for both IMYRMIND and those aforementioned.
Tong Po EP is out 2nd November, and is available from Oye Records.
