London-based party crew Bad Passion Project lift the lid on their new record label, Not An Animal Records, with a four-track EP featuring tracks from Man Power and remixes from Ess O Ess and Backwoods.
After having recently appeared on Throne Of Blood and John Talabot’s Hivern Discs, Man Power turns in the synth-heavy ‘Power Theme’ as the EP’s title track, but it’s the remix provided by British duo Ess O Ess that’s our standout. They strip back the original into a seven-minute cosmic stomper with some subtle guitar work, and drums that wouldn’t be out of place in a straight-ahead techno track. Both these elements are offset by some swirling synths from the original, while the guitar licks add both melodic and rhythmic elements that build the track into a percussion-heavy breakdown. The inclusion of the single-note bassline of the original keeps things friendly for the dancefloor throughout, making the track a great addition to a strong opening statement from the promising new label.
