On the 10th of July hundreds of people came from all over the world to celebrate 10 years of the dubstep pioneers Digital Mystikz at the Brixton Electric, and while the spotlight was firmly on the South London mob there lurked a trio at the end of the list that would be wrapping up the evening’s proceedings, a set of artists who have continued to breathe life into dubstep as it has slipped back into the underground.
Who could’ve foreseen a few weeks later that this motley crew of two Bristolians (Kahn/Commodo) and one Turkish man (Gantz) would baptize their DMZ stage performance with an LP for none other than Mala’s Deep Medi Musik label. Each of their individual releases for the label have been celebrated in their own right, and most recently this year we have had Kahn’s Abbatoir and Gantz’s Witch Blues.
All but one of the tracks sees shared credit on the production and that is evident in ‘So Familia’. An undeniable douse of Gantz’s alluring eastern exoticism accompanies some Commodo ‘Wish’ punch we feel.
The pre-order of the 12” has already sold out over at the Deep Medi store but you can still grab the digitals. More should be on the way when it is officially released on the 28th August so be sure to keep nagging your local dealer if you want that wax!
In the meantime you can revisit Gantz’ City Guide of Istanbul alongside a 100% Turkish mix.
