Tambien – Ondulé (Kornél Kovács remix)

The second release from Stuttgart label Kitjen comes from Public Possession associates Tambien, a three-piece outfit from Munich who have been garnering attention over the last couple of years with their quality, distinctive house records. The title track on the A-side is characteristically warm and texturally rich, and on the B-side Studio Barnhus man Kornél Kovács proves he is worthy of the current hype surrounding him by delivering an excellent remix.

He appears to use only some parts of ‘Ondulé’ and translates some of its left-field leanings into a more floor-friendly track that nevertheless maintains the spirit of the original through its unpredictable structure. Smoothing out the syncopated kick pattern of the original version and adding well-placed claps, Kovács re-deploys Tambien’s pads to create swirling atmospheres propelled by four-to-the-floor kicks and dubwise percussion. Halfway through, the pads melt away to expose what sounds like some pitched-down singing and a shifting bass synth, before leaving the track to fade away as a subdued version of its previous self.
