Characteristic of his musical arsenal behind the decks, Lodger tackles two classic jazz tracks, effortlessly transposing them into more club-ready edits, easy for digesting on the dancefloor.
‘Herbie’s Jam’ sees jazz pioneer Herbie Hancock sampled over a swung house beat, the dusty brass gliding over the dull cymbals which ring in triplets behind a wandering bass. The focal point of the track is the hypnotic piano, it’s cyclical loop keeping the track rolling.
On the flip, ‘Oliver’ is more upbeat, breathing new life into the Oliver Sain’s original. Kicking off with a balearic guitar lick, the bass promptly swoops in to support before the kick locks it all into place. A free-spirited lead guitar solos before handing things over to the saxophone, which is establishes the track as a peak-time floor-raiser.
