Best known for his intoxicating tribal sounds as part of tropical-infused trio Alma Negra, and with releases on both Huntleys + Palmers’ Highlife imprint and the colourful London-based Sofrito label, Swiss producer Dersu Figueira refuses to let up in 2015.
Earlier this year he teamed up with local resident Gomorra for the deeply jazz-infused Padme EP on Origami Sound, with relentless love of all his projects coming from Tim Sweeney, Gilles Peterson, Fantastic Man, Marquis Hawkes, Axel Bowman, Midland and Auntie Flo.
This month the Basel-based producer steps up on his own, jumping onto Amsterdam-based label INI Movement for a continental synthesis of sound that journeys through the mountainous range of the Orient, the flat dunes of the scorching Sahara desert, the swampy lands of New Orleans to the fresh air of Berlin’s house and techno scene.
Today we’re premiering our favourite track off the Moonlight On The Hill EP, ahead of its full release next week. Taking its name from the EP’s title, and closing down the diasporic dancefloor magic, ‘Moonlight’ acts as a therapeutic warm down that transports you somewhere cosmic. Over its 7 minutes, this handcrafted mellow house masterpiece shimmers with silver chimes and a spiritous piano loop that will leave you in an entirely different headspace to how you entered.
Dersu’s Moonlight On The Hill EP is out next week on INI Movement.
